View Public ProfileDistinguished and Famous people from Beachport
Beachport's personal stories include a footballer with strong childhood ties and two sailors remembered for wartime service on its shore. These are different kinds of association: upbringing in the town, and duties that brought people here in exceptional circumstances.
🏅 Jess Allan
Jess Allan grew up first in Beachport and then Millicent, following her sisters into junior football. She made her AFLW debut with Adelaide in 2018 and also played for Greater Western Sydney. Alongside football she pursued an Army career, with training and postings influencing her sporting opportunities. In interviews she has described the importance of Beachport's Anzac Day dawn service since childhood. Those commitments bring sport and service together in a story with a continuing personal connection to the town.
⚓ Thomas Todd and William Danswan
Able Seamen Thomas Todd and William Danswan were sent with their officer to deal with an enemy-laid sea mine found off the coast in July 1941. After it was brought ashore at Beachport, the sailors attempted to destroy it away from the town. Both died in the explosion on 14 July. Their service is commemorated locally. Neither is presented as a Beachport-born resident: their place in its history comes from hazardous wartime work undertaken on this stretch of coast.
